Retirement Planning for Cleveland and Northeast Ohio
Jacob works with individuals and families throughout Cleveland and Northeast Ohio who are preparing for one of life’s most important financial transitions: retirement.
Many clients have spent decades saving, investing, and building wealth. As retirement gets closer, the questions begin to change.
How should my portfolio be structured?
How will I create income from what I have saved?
How do I protect what I have built during volatile markets?
How do I make sure my family is prepared for what comes next?
Jacob’s work is centered on helping clients answer those questions thoughtfully.
Who Jacob Helps.
1
Jacob’s work is designed for individuals and families who have spent years building wealth and are now approaching the next stage of life.
2
Most clients are within roughly ten years of retirement or have recently entered retirement and want thoughtful guidance as they transition from building wealth to living from it.
3
They are often disciplined savers who did many of the right things over the years but now want to make sure their wealth is structured to support both their retirement lifestyle and their long-term family goals.
Jacob often works with clients who are within roughly ten years of retirement, recently retired, have accumulated meaningful savings through disciplined careers and investing, want to convert savings into sustainable retirement income, value thoughtful portfolio management, want help navigating market volatility, are thinking about wealth transfer or family continuity, and want a long-term advisory relationship built on trust.
Retirement Changes The Rules.
During your working years, investing is usually focused on accumulation. But once retirement begins, the dynamic changes. You may no longer be buying investments. You may be selling them to create income.
That is why preparation matters years before retirement begins.
The Retirement Transition Framework.
Retirement is not a single moment. It is a transition that begins years before you stop working.
Traditional financial plans often begin with assumptions about market returns and withdrawal rates. Jacob begins with a different question: How will your assets support the life you have worked to build?
From there, he helps clients structure their retirement strategy around income needs, market uncertainty, long-term growth, tax considerations, retirement account decisions, and future family and legacy goals. Because retirement is not a spreadsheet. It is a decades-long transition.
Common Retirement Planning Mistakes.
The transition into retirement requires thoughtful preparation. Most people spend decades building wealth for retirement. But as retirement approaches, the financial challenges begin to change.
The focus shifts from accumulating assets to structuring them in a way that can support income for the decades ahead. Understanding common risks early allows families to prepare more effectively.
❌ During the working years, you can benefit from consistent contributions and time in the market. But retirement introduces a new dynamic: portfolios must now support withdrawals. Retirement portfolios often require a different structure than accumulation portfolios.
Preparing the Next Generation.
For many families, retirement planning eventually becomes about more than their own retirement.
After decades of disciplined saving and investing, clients often begin thinking about how their wealth may one day support children, grandchildren, charitable priorities, or future generations.
These conversations can be some of the most meaningful parts of the planning process.

About
Jacob Schaefer
Financial Advisor
A lot of people spend decades doing the right things financially. They save consistently, invest carefully, build careers, raise families, and prepare for the future. Then retirement gets close, and the question changes. It is no longer just, “How do I keep growing my money?” It becomes, “How do I live from what I’ve built without putting it at unnecessary risk?”
That transition is where Jacob Schaefer focuses his work. He helps clients prepare for the realities of retirement by bringing structure to their portfolios, discipline to their decisions, and perspective during uncertain markets. His belief is simple: retirement strategies should be built for real markets, not perfect plans. When volatility arrives, clients should not be left wondering what to do next. They should understand why their strategy was prepared the way it was.
Jacob has always been drawn to problem solving, preparation, and understanding people. Before entering financial advice, he considered careers in medicine and law because he was attracted to complex cases, careful thinking, and helping people navigate high-stakes decisions. Financial planning gave him a place to combine those interests with his passion for markets, human behavior, and long-term decision-making.
Outside the office, Jacob’s life is centered around his wife, Rachel, their daughter, Juliana and Australian Shepherd, Coach. He enjoys cooking, golf, pickleball, Ohio State football, church, learning, taking care of his yard, and the craftsmanship and tradition behind a good bourbon. That personal perspective shapes how he thinks about retirement: money is not the end goal. The goal is helping people enjoy the life they worked hard to build, spend time with the people they love, and move forward with confidence in whatever comes next.
